Covent Garden And Artist Anthony Burrill Send A Message Of Love, Hope & Joy To London With Four Storey Art Installation
30th June 2020, London, UK: Covent Garden and British artist Anthony Burrill today unveiled a gigantic four storey tall outdoor art installation, with the words of Love, Hope & Joy emblazoned across a building overlooking the iconic Piazza, welcoming Londoners back to the city. Transforming the historic façade of 3 Henrietta Street into a vibrant message of positivity, the bold print is also being transformed into limited edition posters which will be sold to raise money for NHS Charities Together.
Suspended across a historical building in Henrietta Street and visible across the Piazza from 30th June until October, the artwork has been commissioned by Covent Garden to spread a message of hope for Londoners and is part of a programme of moments to welcome back visitors and to thank the NHS. As part of the installation, 100 limited edition prints of the artwork will be available for sale through Anthony Burrill’s website, with all profits going to NHS Charities Together.
The installation of Burrill’s artwork celebrates the re-opening of the Covent Garden estate to shoppers, with selected retailers, including Chanel, Dior and Tiffany & Co., reopening their doors, alongside Laduree, SUSHISAMBA, Din Tai Fung and Oystermen offering takeaway options. The artwork also marks another moment in Covent Garden’s rich cultural history collaborating with some of the world’s most exciting artists, with previous commissions including large scale artworks by Charles Pétillon, Alex Chinneck, Anya Hindmarch and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac amongst others.
Michelle McGrath, Executive Director, Capco Covent Garden said: “London is a global city with enduring appeal, and given Covent Garden’s position in the heart of the West End, we are delighted to collaborate with Anthony on a message of love to London, and the world. Anthony Burrill's artistic typography has been a source of joy and unity throughout lockdown, and so he was the natural choice to build on our long heritage of showcasing impactful art as well as supporting artists in central London."
Anthony Burrill said about working with Covent Garden: “I am delighted to have worked with Covent Garden on this art installation to share a love note to Londoners and the world and welcome everyone back to the streets" Burrill also explained the rationale behind the artwork, saying: "The world has changed, we are living through unprecedented times that none of us ever anticipated. Throughout the time of lockdown we’ve shown ourselves to be full of love, hope and joy. Unstoppable human qualities that will continue to bring us together as we navigate our way into this new reality. I’m optimistic that we will be able to learn lessons from the past few months, celebrate coming together again, while still remain mindful of the new world we live in.”
The Anthony Burrill art installation will be on show until October 2020. Limited edition installation prints are available from www.anthonyburrill.com/shop.
