In our 2010 Annual Report we identified CR objectives for 2011. Progress against these goals is set out on page 45 of last year’s Annual Report which can be downloaded here.
With regard to our environmental strategy, an example of our innovation is the recently launched Carbon Voyage Scheme at EC&O Venues. This provides solutions for freight and delegate travel aimed at reducing costs and carbon emissions.
Of particular note in our community strategy is the Covent Garden Business Enterprise challenge in which a total of 550 young people worked to design a product that could be sold in the Apple Market and developed their business skills in the process.
We have set ourselves ambitious aims for 2012 that will take our CR strategy forward into the next phase of our development:
1. Continue to build engagement with the CR agenda across the Group.
2. Continue to managed potential risks with care, escalating concerns promptly where appropriate.
3. Participate in the 2012 Carbon Disclosure Project index.
4. Measure our performance using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
5. Maintain membership of FTSE4GOOD and consider membership of another leading index.
6. Support initiatives in communities in which we invest. We particularly wish to help organisations that support the well-being and development of young people in London with an emphasis on homelessness, education, health and sport. We will participate in and support appropriate charities linked to the property industry and we will continue our long-standing involvement with associations that help injured service personnel.
7. Produce a carbon footprint map for Capco.
8. Monitor and assess the success of EC&O Venues’ participation in the Carbon Voyage scheme.
9. Continue to ensure our compliance and manage our participation in the CRC scheme.
10. Aim for a 5 per cent reduction in consumption on a like-for-like basis against 2011 figures as a benchmark.
11. Review the existing Energy Performance Certificates for Covent Garden to assess existing performance levels and identify areas of concern.
12. Undertake a pilot study at Covent Garden to prepare Display Energy Certificates for several buildings and review the findings
13. Aim to increase waste recycling from our Covent Garden tenants, produce reliable statistical data for ongoing monitoring and investigate options for rolling this out across our estate.
14. Continue to work closely with our contractors to minimise waste sent to landfill.
15. Assess ways in which we can create efficiencies through improved monitoring and reduced consumption.
16. Minimise energy consumption and CO2 emissions during the design phase of the Seagrave Road development in line with the Mayor’s energy strategy. This will include using energy efficient building materials and creating a sustainable living environment.
17. Continue to review the inclusion of sustainable elements in our development programme to suit our occupiers.
18. Update the Health & Safety Management Plan and further improve our Health & Safety reporting across the Group.
19. Continue to support community projects which specifically benefit young people in London and in the areas where our assets are located.
20. Continue to encourage shareholder involvement in business strategy and dialogue with the Executive Directors and Chairman.
21. Further enhance our property management strategy for the benefit of all stakeholders.
22. Launch corporate intranet site to improve internal communications.
23. Implement internal development programmes that will enhance the capability and performance of our people.
24. Introduce succession planning at all levels within the business.
25. Continue to encourage employees to engage in CR initiatives and contribute 120 Group employee hours to supporting these projects.
26. Encourage individual fundraising activities of our people and their immediate families through the staff recognition fund.
